CULTURE + CONTEXT

Context creates difference.

And difference informs our designs for architecture and spaces. The Studio is all about context. Understanding each city. Each community. Every site.

We are inspired by the character, scale, materials, gardens, public spaces and character of every community. We create contemporary architecture, materials, gardens, public spaces, and integrate art that evoke and interpret the character of every community.

New York City was originally a collection of 36 villages and towns; now we know them as neighborhoods. Each with its own history, culture, architectural expression, and sense of place. When designing architecture in New York City, our designs for Harlem are different than Long Island City; the Bronx is different than former industrial areas of Manhattan.

And when designing a building in Tokyo or Fukuoka in Japan, or Castille versus Catalonia in Spain, or Siberia in Russia- each one has unique elements that tie it to that place.

We explore and express the materials and myths, the senses of scale and space that make each work of architecture and space reflect its unique sense of place. Reflecting the past and contributing to the future as the next expression of a community.
