THE GREEN HOUSE
The Green House is a 12-story mixed-use residential building at 10-25 Jackson Avenue, Long Island City, Queens. Developed by Charney Companies, The Green House occupies a unique site at the gateway to LIC, spanning from Jackson Avenue to 50th Avenue, with a façade on each avenue.
STUDIO V’s design pulls together several threads of contemporary and historical LIC: a destination for contemporary art, an immediately identifiable industrial design language, and a rich history of terracotta production.
Brooklyn-based street art duo Faile created the three bold murals that occupy large expanses of the building, spanning nearly its entire height. Green House’s entrance also features a dramatic three-story gallery lobby featuring Flux Chandelier by renowned Brooklyn artist Jen Lewin. The chandelier’s pendants are interactive, changing colors in response to resident and guest movement through the space.
STUDIO V reinterprets this history of local production with a contemporary glazed terracotta facade. Vibrant British racing green glaze enlivens the custom terracotta profiles, fabricated in Emilia-Romagna, Italy. The sculptural facade elements complement the large, gridded windows, and its deep, rich color contrasts with the luminous woven industrial bronze mesh, which covers the exposed parking areas and elevator tower.
An all-electric package was prioritized to reduce environmental impact, with energy efficient climate control features for every residence. In response to the growing trend of remote work, conference and expansive coworking areas were integrated into the amenities design.
