INDUSTRIA AT SEA

The conversion of a former boat into a floating art center to be Moore at different locations in New York City. The design, technical, economic, and approvals challenges for the project were significant. STUDIO V was asked to design three flexible new “Daylight Studios” on the upper deck as well as renovate and carve out larger spaces within the hull of the vessel to create two interior “Dark Studios”. The design team’s innovative approach was to create a series of flexible specialty structures or shells made of EFTE foil pillows. This provided a high degree of light control for the interior.

An elegant series of steel arches and a compression ring to enclose the space and support the new structures. Along with that, partial decks were carved out within to create dramatic studio spaces surrounded by mezzanines and support spaces.
